This report looks at the impact of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO) since it came into force in 2013.
LASPO introduced funding cuts to legal aid and resulted in fewer people being able to access legal advice and representation.
Using case studies, this report looks at how LASPO has negatively affected people's lives and access to justice in three areas of law:
family law
employment law
welfare benefits law
The research was carried out by Dr James Organ and Dr Jennifer Sigafoos from the University of Liverpool.
