Arrangements for summer 2020 exam series (Qualifications Wales)

Qualifications Wales asked for views on its plans provide grades for students whose exams were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Predicted grades can have a lasting effect on young people, especially those who already face disadvantage. Our submission focused on how to reduce bias in predicted grading and considerations for exceptions and appeals.

Qualifications Wales must:

• consider data on pupils’ socio-economic background and protected characteristics so that predicted grades are not made on the basis of systemic advantages or disadvantages
• investigate and take remedial action for any negative trends seen in pupils with protected characteristics
