What this covers

The Justice Sub-Committee on policing asked for evidence as part of its review of complaints handling in police services in Scotland. The aim of the review was to improve policing by making it fairer and strengthening public confidence in the system.

Why we are briefing on this subject

We want to make sure that police services in Scotland are not discriminating against protected groups through their practices and policies.

Our main recommendations

Police Scotland and the Scottish Police Authority must comply with the public sector equality duty and commit to regularly reviewing their practices from an equality perspective.
