Code of practice for services, public functions and associations: consultation 2024

Published: 2 October 2024

Last updated: 2 October 2024

About this Code of Practice

This code covers discrimination, harassment and victimisation in services and public functions, as set out in Part 3 of the Act, and discrimination by associations, as set out in Part 7 of the Act. It includes steps that should be taken to ensure those providing services, public functions and associations do not discriminate against people. It explains how the Equality Act 2010 works in relation to these activities and applies the legal concepts in the Act to everyday situations.

About the consultation

We have updated the code to reflect significant developments in legislation and case law since it was first published in 2011. We are running this consultation to gather feedback on the updated code.

We want to understand:

  • whether our interpretation of the law is clearly articulated in the circumstances we have set out
  • whether we have captured all new law and its associated impact
  • how we can make the code as accessible and easy to understand as possible

You can use our online survey to give your feedback. The survey will be open from 2 October 2024 to 5pm on 3 January 2025.

If you need to read the survey questions before completing the survey, you can download the questions.

These documents are for information purposes only. You must submit your response to the consultation through the online survey. If you cannot use the online survey, or need a reasonable adjustment, you can:
