A spokesperson for the Equality and Human Rights Commission said:
“The Equality and Human Rights Commission has a duty to enforce our equality laws and defend human rights.
“We are aware of concerns broadcast by BBC Panorama on 17 June, regarding the treatment of children with special educational needs and disabilities at the Life Wirral independent school in Wallasey. We will consider these concerns carefully and take any appropriate action.
“Restraint should only ever be used as a last resort in schools, and it must be conducted in the safest way possible. It should never be used for disciplinary reasons or with intent to harm, humiliate, distress or degrade a child.
“Our education system needs to support all children to reach their potential in a safe environment, that eliminates discrimination and harassment and respects their human rights.”
