Commenting on the Government’s response to the Lammy Review, Equality and Human Rights Commission Chair David Isaac said:
The issues David Lammy identified in his report need a joined-up approach to resolve them. The Government has taken the Lammy Review seriously and responded quickly to its recommendations. However, to address the deep inequalities in society we need a comprehensive and coordinated race strategy.
As the first point of contact with the criminal justice system, the police service must be part of the solution; yet the majority of police and crime plans do not include a commitment to reduce race inequality. Police and Crime Commissioners must urgently clarify how they will meet their legal duty to advance equality.
