Race disparity audit: we must face inequalities head on

Published: 3 October 2017

Responding to the Prime Minister's comments on the race disparity audit, due to be published next week, Equality and Human Rights Commission Chief Executive Rebecca Hilsenrath said:

No matter how uncomfortable the findings, we must not shy away from them. Race inequality is entrenched in our society and we need to stop deluding ourselves that it will somehow improve without sustained and coordinated effort on our part. We urgently need a comprehensive race strategy bringing in all parts of government to face these inequalities head on and ensure black and minority ethnic people are not left behind.

The Prime Minister should be applauded in carrying out this work and we stand ready to work with her and use our expertise to address these problems.
