What countries does this apply to?

  • Scotland

What the Bill covers

This Bill aims to keep Scottish law aligned with EU law after Brexit. The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020.

Why we are briefing on this subject

We want to make sure that after leaving the EU, equality and human rights laws in Scotland will continue to meet international standards and keep progressing at the same pace as developments in the EU.

Our main recommendations

We welcome a new power in the Bill allowing Scottish Ministers to introduce laws that encourage Scotland to develop at the same pace as the EU. This power is limited to prevent changes to the Equality Act 2006.
