Muirfield golf club vote 'right decision for women and Scotland'

Published: 14 March 2017

Following a second vote, the members of Muirfield golf club have voted to allow female golfers to join the club.

Equality and Human Rights Commission Scotland Commissioner Dr Lesley Sawers said:

Not allowing women to play at a golf club is clearly an outdated idea. But this isn’t just about old-fashioned attitudes; the local economy stood to lose £40m as a result of the Open not being staged at Muirfield.

They have clearly made the right decision for women and Scotland.
