Understanding the Public Sector Equality Duty: resources for the third sector in Wales

What countries does this apply to?

  • Wales

The Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) means public sector organisations must take into account the need to:

  • get rid of unlawful discrimination
  • advance equal opportunities
  • build good relations between communities

The third sector (such as charities or non-governmental organisations) can challenge public bodies in Wales if they do not comply with the PSED.

For example, a charity working with disabled people can challenge a public body who allowed disability discrimination to happen.

The resources on this page are designed to help third sector organisations (who work in an area relating to a protected characteristic) to challenge the public sector where appropriate – to help make Wales a fairer place.
