Statement

EU rights must not be watered down by Brexit

Published: 19 December 2016

Commenting on the report by the Joint Committee on Human Rights into the human rights implications of Brexit, Equality and Human Rights Commission Chief Executive Rebecca Hilsenrath said:

EU laws and treaties form an integral part of the safety net of human rights that we all enjoy and these must not be watered down during Brexit negotiations. It is vitally important that the rights of UK nationals living in Europe and those of EU nationals living in the UK are safeguarded.

We welcome the report by the Joint Committee on Human Rights on this important subject.
