The Equality and Human Rights Commission in Scotland today welcomed the Scottish government’s action plan for a fairer Scotland and committed to working with the government in ensuring this leads to real change for the people of Scotland.
Alastair Pringle, Director of the Equality and Human Rights Commission in Scotland, said:
Earlier this year we published Is Scotland Fairer? – a major assessment of the state of equality and human rights. I am very pleased that today’s Scottish government action plan for a fairer Scotland picks up many of the challenges we set out, and commits the government to reducing inequality and promoting fairness in all aspects of our social, economic and civic life.
I am particularly pleased to note the commitments to equality in employment, including greater flexible working and ending pregnancy discrimination, bullying in schools, domestic abuse and kinship carers – all issues that we have highlighted.
The plan sets out a bold vision for a fairer Scotland and we will be happy to play our part in making it a reality.
